DIY 'One For The Road' Leather Jacket | CarolynNotCaroline

It's festival season and in a few short days the Arctic Monkeys will take to the stage at one of Ireland's largest festivals, Electric Picnic. Alex Turner (lead vocals) recently paraded a leather jacket and written on the back of it were the words 'One For The Road', a title of a song from their soon to be released album 'AM' in September.

Anyway, I thought it looked pretty cool and decided sure, I'll make my own as I'm a huge fan of the band and their music.

I found a template of the words from the internet and I traced the lettering onto a piece of card paper.
I placed that onto the back of my leather jacket (old one from Primark) to make sure the sizing looked correct.

I used a scissors I then cut out the lettering, placed it on the jacket and outlined each letter like a stencil with a pen.

Then using white acrylic paint (without any water other than to clean my brushes) I painted onto the jacket. As acrylic paint drys quite quickly be sure to move fast with the brush in order to cover as much of the area as possible before it dries and becomes lumpy.

After colouring in each letter I noticed a few smudges of white paint around some letters that of course shouldn't be there. So if you have made any mistakes in (smudging the paint that has now dried up or simply accidentally painted outside the stencil).

I used a black pen, or you could use black acrylic paint but I suggest the pen as it's easier to work with and more than likely you may smudge the black paint if you don't have a steady hand.

I left the jacket to dry hanging over my mirror or you could just place it on a hanger and there you have it Alex Turner's 'One For The Road' black leather jacket design.
