Tim Burton's 'Corpse Bride' inspired make-up look | CarolynNotCaroline

So it's that time of the year again, when kids dress up in scary costumes, run around your neighbour hood, bang on your doors for sweets, that to some people means throwing a few pieces of fruit into your trick or treat bag. Yep, you guessed it, HALLOWEEN! It is most definitely my favourite holiday of the year and here is my Tim Burton's 'Corpse Bride' inspired make-up look in picture and step by step form. I know, I know, it would be so much easier for it to be in video format but I'm in no way skilled in the editing and filming department, well just yet anyway.  I hope you enjoy!

FACE PAINTS - I used the following water based Face and Body paint for this look, called Snazaroo (left swatched on skin) and these are the colours you should look out for if you want a similar look to Tim Burton's 'Corpse Bride'. I purchased mine from the Art and Hobby Shop. It is quite pricey at €4.99 each but it's long lasting and worth it if you plan to cover your arms and legs for any Halloween costume idea. I purchased just three colours for this look, black, white and blue.

PRITT STICK (GLUE) - As I'm using my eyebrows as an eyelid in my make up look, I want  my eyebrows to be quite flat so it holds the product I use on them nicely without stray hairs showing. (I mean who has hairy eyelids? Eyelashes doesn't count.)

EYESHADOW - Mainly dark blues, navy, grey and purples. Literally ANY BRAND will do as long as the shadows are highly pigmented! I used the Sleek i-Divine palette 'Ultra Matts'

Remember when creating this look, you don't want any colours with shimmer in them.

LIQUID EYELINER - For this look I  used the Soap and Glory 'SuperCat liner' and Collection Extreme liner 'pen'. Both long lasting and easy to apply and of course very inexpensive!

LIPSTICK - Any purple / pink toned lipstick will do. I also used some mauve toned eyeshadow from Make up Revolution in shade 'Hung Up' as you are meant to be a dead bride.

STEP 1.

I washed and dried my face with cold water. I found a photograph of the Corpse Bride Emily online to copy from and before applying any paint to my face I used a pritt stick glue to flatten down my eyebrows as we don't want hairy eyelids when we're finished.

STEP 2 -

So to apply the base, pale blue to match Emily's skin tone I used a Real Techniques 'Buffing brush' but you can use whatever suits yourself as long as you don't forget to clean the brushes afterwards. I covered my entire face except my eyes with this colour.

STEP 3 -

Using a different and smaller brush I began to colour in my eyelid and sockets with the white paint. (Side note, be sure not to add too much water as it will just fall off your face.)

STEP 4 -

While the white areas dry I used a darker blue than the blue face paint (an eyeshadow) to contour my cheek bones and nose. I also applied the same colour on my eyebrows which is now called our eyelids!

STEP 5 -

It's eyeliner time! This may be the trickiest part of the whole look but bare with me. Once everything is dry, I carefully drew a concentric circle around my eye socket, using each end of my eyebrows as starting and finishing points. Then I drew over my eyebrow to define the eyelids. After they dried (I found it best to use the Essence liner now) I drew on quick flicks to create similar eyelashes to Emily, (remember we don't want these lines to be perfect)

STEP 7 -

I applied eyebrows above my normal eyebrows using the photo of Emily for guidance and applied some purple/pink toned lipstick or eyeshadow. I used eyeshadow as it gives the most powerful effect, I mean c'mon you are meant to be a corpse!

STEP 8 -

Congratulations! You made it to the end of the step by step tutorial and you should look like Emily now. If not, I do apologise haha. I added a purple wig, a floral head crown / band from Primark and an old lace white dress and voila, costume completed!

And they lived happily ever after... Wait no, that's not how you end this one. Liked this Halloween look and want a little bit more? Check out this, my 'Nightmare Before Christmas' inspired look:

Ditch the eyebrows, purple wig, add a few stitches and you're now Sally the rag doll from Nightmare Before Christmas. Hope you enjoyed this 2 in 1 Halloween inspired make-up / costume thingy.

Tenerife 2015 | CarolynNotCaroline

Hello, hello. So I flew to Tenerife a few weeks ago now for a break away / family holiday and took over a hundred photographs of anything and everything, don't worry, I still ate, drank and swam in the pool. I'm absolutely gutted that Summer is ending and I guess I'm trying to soak in every last minute of my time off before returning to college. My next posts will be my holiday documented through images.

Zoeva Rose Gold brushes review! | CarolynNotCaroline

Right, so I've had these Zoeva make-up brushes for over a year now and I felt it was only appropriate to do a little review. I purchased the 'Rose Gold' set of 8 brushes (face & eyes) because, well do I need a reason? *Talks in slow motion* ROOOOOSE GOOOOLD, that's why. I remember this well as my bedroom at this time was 'rose gold' themed almost, plus look how pretty they are! Ok, you came here for the review, looks aren't everything, so I learn't.

As I said the set came with 8 brushes in this cute brown pleather bag, also with rose gold hardware! *Fist pump* which I thought was brilliant as the quality of the bag is really well made and perfect for travelling.

Price wise, this set costs €65.00 which is pricey but it contains all the brushes you really need and saying that it works out a lot cheaper than buying the likes of MAC and Sigma sets. For the quality of the bristles and sturdiness of the hardware €65.00 is a reasonable price for a set of face and eye brushes. Now let's discuss the brushes individually. (in no particular order)

102 / Silk Finish -
What I use it for: I use this brush on a daily basis for liquid foundation and nothing else. I find it works for me for foundation more than anything else as it's tapered and not flat (like previous foundation brushes I have owned and let's be honest, they didn't make me look good) meaning I'm not left with any streaks on my face. Dislikes: After plenty of use (as shown in the photograph above, the beautiful rose gold hardware began to tarnish *sigh* which I was gutted about and sadly there is no way in fixing it. This has happened to most of the brushes as you can see in the next view photographs.
Similar to: Real Techniques Expert face brush.

127 / Luxe Sheer Cheek -
What I use it for: Again on a daily basis, this is the brush I pick up to contour my cheekbones, the double chin and temples with. It can also be used to apply blush as I tried that once. Side note - Don't use it for blush and contouring in one go unless you want to look like a clown. I can't fault this brushes' function. It applies product nicely and is the softest brush out of the set.
Dislikes: The rose gold has tarnished and the brush hairs themselves have slightly lost their shape but it still works, that's the important thing!
Similar to: MAC 168 / Sigma Large Angled Contour F40

106 / Powder -
What I use it for: This brush is probably the least I use out of the set purely because I love my Real Techniques Powder brush too much! This is the brush that usually stays in my handbag as it's smaller than the Real Techniques one, so it's very travel friendly. So I guess you could call it my travel powder brush.
Dislikes: None.
Similar to: Sigma Large Powder F30

110 / Face Shape -
What I use it for: This brush is like a mini version of the first brush '102 Silk Finish' and I use it for concealer. It's the perfect size to fit under my eyes and blends it in nicely.
Dislikes: I've nothing bad to say about this brush other than the fact that the rusts.
Similar to: Couldn't compare it to anything else.

317 / Wing Liner brush -
What I use it for: I use this brush for two purposes, filling in my eyebrows and applying gel eyeliner.
Dislikes: I can't fault it functionality, it's brilliant.
Similar to: Sigma E65

227/ Luxe Soft Definer brush -
What I use it for: This is the brush that I use to place eyeshadow across my entire mobile lid. I don't particularly use it for anything else other than that.
Dislikes: Rust *sigh*
Similar to: Real Techniques 'Base Shadow' brush / Sigma Blending E25 / MAC 217

142 / Concealer buffer -
What I use it for: I use this brush to blend out the eyeshadow that I have placed in the crease of my eyelid. This brush comes in handy when creating a smokey eye look. It also can be used for concealer or contouring the nose.
Dislikes: None other than the rust.
Similar to: Sigma Precision Flat P80 / Real Techniques 'Deluxe Crease' brush

231 / Luxe Petit Crease -
What I use it for: I use this brush to apply darker colours to the crease of my eyelid. I have hooded eyes and I find this brush very helpful in creating the illusion of having a mobile lid.
Dislikes: Again, the rose gold part has tarnished / the bristles have slightly lost their shape but still works brilliantly!
Similar to: Bdellium Tools 781 / Sigma Precision Tapered P86

Overall I love these brushes! They are very easy to clean, very soft and do the job. I would recommend these brushes to anyone but especially to those who are maybe new to make-up brushes and are unsure about which brand to go for / which individual brushes to buy. As I said, they are perfect for travelling as they come with a travel case. Each brush pretty much covers every basic make-up look you wish to create and the brushes are multifunctional.

As a first timer to the Zoeva brush collections, I feel like a lot of people including myself were drawn to the look of this set. OMG! ROSE GOLD! I CAN'T EVEN! TAKE MY MONEY!

Side note - The rose gold hardware has faded but the bristles and function of the brushes remains the exact same, since the first time I used them (which is good, but if I were to buy from their range again, I would put my money towards the black and sliver sets purposely because they are less likely to rust and they are slightly cheaper.
